Fixing Bryce sky libraries for import
(This file is included with the patch sets)
I was inside B2.1 checking on another aspect of the sky import problems, when I had another idea, and found a simpler fix! It should have occurred to me before, but I'm kind of slow sometimes.
First of all, the export procedure: -start bryce, open sky presets palette, click on the thumbnail *before* the first one you want to export, hold down the shift key and click on another thumbnail at least a couple down the line (so as to select a group), click on "export", name the file in the save dialog and save it somewhere safe (like the desktop). -In order to export a usable file, you MUST select in groups.-
Now the fix: (Start here if you're fixing an existing set) -Open a copy of the exported presets file with resedit, double click on the pict resource (you probably know this), highlight the first one in the list (#11000), and hit the delete key. That should get rid of it. -Now, click on the next one in the list (#11001), do a command-I, and reduce the ID# by 1 (i.e., 11001 becomes 11000, 11002 becomes 11001, etc.). Continue until all resource ID#žs have been reduced by 1 (absolutely necessary), then save and close. Try importing from the altered file -I just did this and it worked perfectly.
If you are having trouble exporting at all, try this workaround described to me by DBariel: Open the B2.1 support files and drag the "Skies.sky" file out to another area. Close the folders and start bryce-it will create a new "Skies.sky" file. Open the skies presets palette and add the existing (plain) sky to the empty list-you'll need it for the fix mentioned above. Add more skies to your liking. Quit bryce, drag the new "Skies.sky" file to somewhere besides where you put the original, and drag the original back in. Try importing from the file that you dragged out and check for the one-off problem. If it happens, use the fix above.
Maybe someone who knows more about this than me could make a universal patch to automate the fix process. If not, I'll do it when I figure out how. -Gary9000 9/1/96
